We welcome My Noble Lords, Learned Silks, Seniors, and Learned Colleagues to the 2025/2026 Legal Year. 2. Often, as an institution and profession, we fail to reflect on the happenings of the preceding Legal Year, which prevents us from identifying our shortcomings. 3. It is essential to include a review session of the previous year as part of the activities during the Opening of the Legal Year, enabling us to make meaningful projections for the new Legal Year. 4. The judiciary has not fully embraced technology to solve simple problems. In the 21st century, some courts still require people to physically visit to confirm court sittings. A simple text message indicating court adjournments and new hearing dates would resolve this issue. 5. Each Accident Victim Families, Deserve N20 Million Compensation From Dangote By: Peter Omonua Dangote trailers have done lots of damages to the lives of many people and families in Edo State. Incidences of Dangote trailers and their killings all over the country have been ongoing for years without accountability.  A few years ago, one of his trailers killed 16 people on the spot at Ketu Alapere bus stop. The victims were so fatally crushed that they were unrecognizable. On my visit to the Ikeja General hospital at that time, to identify one of the casualties; it was only by the ring on one of the fingers that i could tell it was our relative. Their faces were totally mangled.  Within a few weeks after that incidence, it was again reported that another Dangote trailer had killed 10 more people, and that the driver of the vehicle ran away after the incidence. The Super Falcons got 100k dollars for winning the WAFCON, but a Police Man or Police Officer has served the country for 35 years and gets 2 million Naira or less . There are many young Nigerians who are investing in IT, infrastructure, yet got no support from the government.  The owners of Futtetwave and Paystack relocated the headquarters of their businesses to South Africa. The Nigerian  Government did not ask why or even encourage them to cone back.  Pfizer and Glaxco Smith kline left Nigeria, no questions from the Nigerian Government.  Do you know how much 100k dollars will do to a start up? Do you know how many start-ups are looking for seed funds? We, however, choose to give it to footballers when there are many businesses struggling for survival.  The empowerment programmes are shrouded in secrecy and mystery. I have not seen one person who is a beneficiary....
