A former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and former Undersecretary of the United Nations, Ambassador Professor Martin Ihoeghian Uhomoibhi, OFR, a foremost Edo governorship aspirant, has called on the Nigerian government to seek peace at all costs with Niger regarding the ongoing political crisis that is gradually escalating in that country, saying; '...Nigeria is known as a global peace keeper...'

Ambassador Professor Uhomoibhi said this in Benin on Saturday, 11th August, 2023, while responding to the questions from a team of journalists at the official commissioning of John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy, in Benin, Edo state.

Continuing, Ambassador Uhomoibhi said; 'we do not anticipate war as war has never been the solution to any crisis…we are going to be the greatest victim should there be an escalation of the problem currently going on in Niger. We should do everything possible to broker peace as Niger is our neighbour”.

Ambassador Uhomoibhi, who said Nigeria has never gone to war with any country, added that; 'this should not be the first time'.

Ambassador Uhomoibhi, however expressed optimism that peace will return to Niger, saying it's just a matter of time.
