Disregard Forces Of Darkness In Ambrose Alli University

By: Imoudu Peter

Since the Selection Panel for the appointment of a new substantive Vice Chancellor began its assignment, our beloved university, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, has witnessed a recrudescence of the evil machinations of these seemingly entrenched forces of darkness.

Social media and a few nondescript media outlets have been awash with their odious, scurrilous, insensate and markedly false publications.

Who are these desperados and what exactly do they want? It must be anything but the over all well-being and best interests of our great University.

Masquerading under faceless groups and anonyms, these media rats have been calling out the name of our most illustrious former substantive Vice Chancellor, Professor I.A. Onimawo and spewing absolute gibberish!

What has the poor former VC got to do with the Selection Panel’s remit over the appointment of Principal officers for Ambrose Alli University?  For the avoidance of doubt and even if it bears repeating a jillion times, Prof I.A. Onimawo, is on record as our University’s best ever Vice Chancellor.

Whether you love to hate him or hate to love him, he has already laid down a marker with his uncommon infrastructural & digital transformation of our University that is well nigh inimitable. (a record to beat).  It is a testament to his more than stellar achievements as Vice Chancellor that the Federal Government of Nigeria found him worthy of appointment as Pro-Chancellor of one of the nation’s federal universities (the first ever Ambrose Alli University senior citizen to achieve that feat!).

It is instructive to note that the books of account of the Onimawo administration of our University (May  11,2016- May 11,2021), were subjected to very rigorous anti-corruption scrutiny by the EFCC, ICPC etc during and after the life of his administration. Not a single prima facie corruption count was found against him or any of the major dramatis personae of his administration.

It is shocking that in 2025 some of these never-say-die minions still reference that thoroughly discredited and duplicitous “Due Diligence Report” of the ousted and misbegotten Lawson Omokhodion Governing Council. What further proof do these implacable and finicky traducers need to understand that what we owe this distinguished former substantive Vice Chancellor is nothing but unreserved or unalloyed reverence. Haba!

As a former Vice Chancellor of the Ambrose Alli University and a present Pro Chancellor of a federal University, Professor Ignatius Akhakhia Onimawo, distinguished nutritionist of local and international repute, has no business or role in the ongoing appointments. People should please leave him alone!

What is more, people are entitled to their points of view regarding the outcome of the recently concluded selection process for the post of Vice Chancellor.

However, what is undeniable is the fact that those selected as the top three out of the tree of about twenty five or so applicants, represent the creme de la creme. Let us be objective for a moment:

No 1, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture three (3) times, former DVC Academics, Hod etc

No 2: former Hod, pioneer CBE Chair, former Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, former DVC Academics etc

No 3: incumbent AVC, fmr Provost of the College of Medicine, fmr Dean of the Faculty of Clinical Sciences etc..

Which of the other applicants bar perhaps only the former DVC Administration, can truly hold a candle close to the selected top three? I really do not see any with due respects of course to all the other applicants who are eminent intellectual giants in their own rights.

At this juncture, what we need now in Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, is peace. Let there be light in our University. Let us collectively reject darkness and all workers of iniquity in our midst. Let us make our beloved University great again!
