...harped on efficacy of traditional medicines

The Chairman, Edo State Traditional Medicines Board, TMB, High Chief Abudu Ugbesia JP, has again emphasised on the need for people to go back to their heritage, saying; "... though, western civilization has come to change a lot of things with respect to our ways of life, we cannot run away from our root".
"For me, when it comes to treatment of the sick, roots and herbs, just like it was used by our forefathers, is my pen and paper, and my Oracle and Okolo, the symbol of a traditional doctor, are my certificates".
"...the restoration of the sick back to life, is the beauty of medicine, and I am proud to inform the world that, we are effectively complementing orthodox medicines in this wise".
High Chief Ugbesia said this in an exclusive chat with our Correspondent in his office, while commenting on the activities of Edo state Traditional Medicines Board with respect to the use of herbs and roots in restoring the sick back to life.
Speaking, Chief Ugbesia who harped on the potency and efficacy of traditional medicines over the western and orthodox medicines, also added that; "western medicines are not natural, as a number of chemicals are added to them which can sometimes produce negative results especially in the long run".
Continuing, High Chief Abudu Ugbesia, maintained that, he wants to leave an indelible footprint and legacy that traditional medicines practitioners in and outside Edo state will be proud to associate with, also revealed that, a number of medicinal trees, herbs and roots are very difficult to find these days, hence the advocacy of the Board for the aggressive planting of trees.
Chief Ugbesia thanked Edo state Governor, His Excellency Senator Monday Okpebholo, for bringing Edo state Traditional Medicines Board back to life after it was abandoned for several years by the previous administration, saying; "...as a Board, we will continue to support the governor and make him proud of us, by complementing the orthodox medicine practitioners in Edo state, such that every other state in the country, and beyond, will copy from us".
Recently, the members of the Task Force of Edo state Traditional Medicines Board, apprehended some fake traditional medicines practitioners in Benin, confiscated their wares and made them to face the law.
