Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, how far can he go? By Oriaifoh Godwins The above question is what has been on the lips of some Edolites since Monday, 8 th June 2015 when Rt. Hon. Victor Sabor Tiger Edoror was sworn in and assumed the position of the Speaker, Edo state House of Assembly. While the optimists and those that know the erudite, shrewd, focused and purpose driven lawmaker very well, are not in any way in doubt with respect to what the man at the helm of affairs of the law making arm of Edo state can do to deliver and put Edo state on the pedestal of the next level, the pessimists and the doubting Thomases are in doubt with respect to how far he can go. To start with, the people of Esan Central Local government Area, the Constituency he represents, have been and are still enjoying the dividends of democracy that Rt. The June 1 meeting with NSA Sambo Dasuki, which lasted for hours, was part of what sources called “debriefing process” and was done behind closed doors in the absence of the Vice-President. EXTENDING GAINS OF AMNESTY TO BOKO HARAM

Extending gains of Amnesty to Boko Haram Attaining development, in the absence of peace, is a mirage. Excerpt: In his last parley with the press recently, as his tenure ended with the government of President Goodluck Jonathan, Honourable Kingsley Kuku, Special Adviser to Goodluck Jonathan on Niger Delta, and Chairman, Presidential Amnesty Programme, recalls how the Niger Delta, the economic mainstay of Nigeria, that was once notorious for its restiveness, is today, the most peaceful and the most investment friendly part of the country. It will be recalled that, the processes of achieving politi cal solution, rather than sustaining the military o

WHEN A LEGISLATOR IS A WORKING LEGISLATOR

WHEN A LEGISLATOR IS A WORKING LEGISLATOR By Oriaifoh Godwins The work of a legislator, amongst other things is to make laws, act as a check on the executive arm of government, control and supervise the budgets etc; but when a legislator goes out of his way not only to attract the dividends of democracy to his constituency, but also use his personal income/salary to provide palliative measures to people in his constituency, especially the widows and the youths, then such legislator must be commended as he is not only a selfless individual, but also one that is close to his people and also close to God; as it is often said that you must be close to the people to know their problems and to God to be able to solve them. Therefore, a legislator that knows the problems of his people, and also goes the extra mile in solving them is not only a working legislator, he is one that is a shining example amongst other legislators, as such, must be commended and emulated by others.      When Private Universities become role models Academic standards in our institutions of learning are falling, the government seem to be doing all it can to restore normalcy, but there seem to be a missing link as the education sector seem to be in a state of quagmire, Oriaifoh Godwins writes The need to urgently revamp the fall in the standard of Education in Nigeria, cannot be overemphasised, especially bearing in mind that, some graduates of Nigerian Universities today, leaves much to be desired (in terms of their academic and moral quality) hence, a number of them, are unemployable. Again, some of our older universities are not any better as some of some of their products are not able to defend the certificates they claim to have obtained. They more or less seem to be living on their past glories. Despite the foregoing, however, one university has shown signs of bringing back the lost glory of the standard and quality of education in Nigeria; and that university, is
