Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, how far can he go?

By Oriaifoh Godwins
The above question is what has been on the lips of some Edolites since Monday, 8th June 2015 when Rt. Hon. Victor Sabor Tiger Edoror was sworn in and assumed the position of the Speaker, Edo state House of Assembly.

While the optimists and those that know the erudite, shrewd, focused and purpose driven lawmaker very well, are not in any way in doubt with respect to what the man at the helm of affairs of the law making arm of Edo state can do to deliver and put Edo state on the pedestal of the next level, the pessimists and the doubting Thomases are in doubt with respect to how far he can go.
To start with, the people of Esan Central Local government Area, the Constituency he represents, have been and are still enjoying the dividends of democracy that Rt. Hon Edoror has been and is still delivering to them. The people in his constituency has never had it this good.
This write up is not an avenue to showcase, or talk about the very many projects that Rt Hon. Edoror had attracted to his constituency in the past; however, for those that are not in tune with Hon. Edoror’s antecedents and exploits in the area of adequate representation of the people in his constituency, it is apt to let them know that the building of two Town Halls (one at Ewu and the other at Ikekato), the setting up of Skills acquisition centres (one in Irrua and the other in Uwessan), the digging of boreholes at Idumebo-Irrua, Oghagbo and Opoji, the repairs of the NDDC borehole at Idumabi-Irrua, the building of blocks of Classrooms at Idumebo and Ekilo Primary schools, provision of transformer to Idumebo community, as well as the provision of food items to the widows across the ten wards that makes up Esan Central local government area, the yearly football tournaments sponsored by him…just to mention a few, are (according to the Comrade Governor) ‘eye mark’ landmarks that none of his predecessors had. The people of Esan central local government are today, the better for it. This is why his securing the ticket for his second tenure and his ultimately winning, was not a problem for him as they all rallied round him and overwhelmingly voted for him.
If his above antecedents are not pointers to his ability to steer the ship of Edo state House of Assembly to higher heights, one then wonders what else will be; especially bearing in mind the fact that, Rt. Honourable Victor Edoror is a crowd puller, a pragmatic problem shooter and above all, a good listener with open heart and arms.
Again, just within the first week after his inauguration as the Speaker, Edo state House of Assembly, in the meeting he held with the management staff of EDHA, he promised to replace the old generator at the legislators quarters that has not been functional for sometime now, with a new and modern one, and true to his words a couple of days later, the generator was installed.
All his above strides are pointer to the fact that he is poised to take EDHA to the next level; especially bearing in mind that, in during his meeting with the management staff of EDHA, he said; ‘…anything that must be done, should be done well…I am a result oriented person, and I want to leave a remarkable footprints on the sands of time in the history of Edo state House of Assembly. How far can he go? The evidence of true representation that he has so far shown, is a pointer to the answer to this question.
