Stop Playing Politics with People's Lives... Edo APC tells Obaseki

“Quit playing politics with people’s lives”

- APC slams Obaseki over statement blaming opposition for fire incidents at Benin markets

The Edo State chapter of the APC has rebuked Governor Godwin Obaseki for his “shameful blame game and unfortunate descent to political polarization” on important state matters affecting the lives of the people, particularly the fire incidents ravaging markets and other public spaces in the state.

The statement issued by Mr. John Mayaki in response to the state government’s attempt to blame the opposition for the fire tragedies condemned Obaseki’s now familiar resort to politics as a ploy to evade responsibility for his growing failures, noting that the governor cannot continue to point hands at others with every manifestation of his incompetence and complete abandonment of governance.

Mayaki, who is the Chairman of the Edo Media and Publicity Committee of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, said “attributing the attendant disasters that stem from government mismanagement and incompetence to the opposition is obviously the oldest trick in the book of failed leaders.”

“And while one is not at all surprised that Obaseki and his minders, being the one-trick ponies that they are, continue to peddle this worn tactic, it remains befuddling that they have kept at this nonsense after nearly seven years in the saddle and on matters directly affecting the lives of the people.”

“If Obaseki has any proof that other factors besides his evident incompetence and abdication of responsibility are responsible for the annual fire incidents at our markets, why hasn’t he surrendered the same to the authorities and acted proactively to prevent a repeat? Why wait until more goods are destroyed, and his inept leadership questioned, before coming to the public with ludicrous finger-pointing?”

Mayaki added that the government’s inane approach to the matter, in which it has decided to reduce the serious challenge to political barbs as opposed to providing answers to the many questions begging for answers, including the absent fire and emergency management service in the state, shows that it has no intention to solve the problem or provide succour to the innocent victims who continue to suffer from the government’s gross irresponsibility.

He repeated his advice to the people to pass a loud message to the PDP-led Edo State government next year by rejecting its candidates at the polls, saying that “the evil Obaseki root must be uprooted, beginning with the snipping of its corrupt branches represented by his fellow PDP stooges standing election on the dubious and clearly false grounds that they have anything useful to offer to Edo people.”
