The foremost aspirant for the upcoming Edo governorship election, Ambassador Professor Martin Ihoeghian Uhomoibhi OFR, has advised the people of Edo state to look out for a candidate with integrity, character and experience in governance, so as to get it right once and for all if we must move Edo state to a higher level.

Ambassador Uhomoibhi gave this advice on Friday, 1st November, 2023 while responding to questions from a team of Journalists where he was the guest lecturer at the second Annual Lecture Series and Awards, organised by Ambrose Alli University Alumni Association, Abuja Branch.

Ambassador Uhomoibhi said; '...we have stayed too long in the valley, we need to move to a higher ground...'

Ambassador Uhomoibhi, who said, Edo People must look at the content and character of people who have something to offer to move the state forward, added that; '...this time around, we cannot afford to risk recycling the same people that put us in the mess we are currently in, otherwise we will continue to get same result...'

Ambassador Professor Uhomoibhi, who said, our people are living in fears, as farmers can no longer go to farms, we can no longer travel on our highways for fear of kidnappers and armed robbers, as we are virtually Internally Displayed Persons, IDP's in our own home. In view of all these, he said, the people of Edo state need to support a candidate with the requisite experience and International connections who can maximally harness our human, material and natural resources for the benefit of the Edo people.

Ambassador Martin Ihoeghian Uhomoibhi, a one-time Permanent Secretary, in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who is so far, the longest in service in the history of Foreign Service in Nigeria, and a former Undersecretary General of the United Nations, is currently aspiring to contest for the position of the governor of Edo state, on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, come 2024.
