EDHA alleges threat to Members' lives, suspends Clerk, constitutes House C'tees

EDHA ALLEGES THREAT TO MEMBERS' LIVES, SUSPENDS CLERK, CONSTITUTES HOUSE COMMITTEES

Members of Edo State House of Assembly, EDHA, in a plenary held today, Tuesday 18th August, have cried out to all well meaning Edo People, Nigerians and the world at large, on the covert and clandestine plot of some high placed Edo State Government functionary to again, unleash mayhem on the Members of the Assembly who have been peacefully carrying out the constitutional duties and responsibilities they were voted for, to do by their constituencies. The Clerk of the House, Mr. Audu Yayah Omogbai, was also suspended as the Clerk of the House, following his activities of conniving with the minority Members of the House to subvert democratic principles.

Speaking on ‘Personal Explanation’ in the Order Paper of the plenary, Hon. Washington Osa Osifo, the Member representing Uhumwonde Constituency in EDHA, started by recalling the event that occurred on the 19th of June, 2019, when thugs numbering over a hundred, led by the then Chief Security Officer, CSO, to Edo State Government House, DSP Chris Nwokolo and backed by the Wabaizigan Police in a commando style, stormed Golden Tulips Hotel Benin, to unleash mayhem on the Members who were gathered in the hotel to inform the world in a Press conference, on the injustice meted to them by the Governor and his Deputy, Mr. Godwin Obaseki and Hon. Phillip Shaibu respectively.

Hon Washington pointed out that prior to that infamous act on that fateful day, the Members got the information, but discarded it. Hon. Osifo went on to reveal that same information currently reaching the Members of EDHA from the same quarter, is that the Governor of Edo State, and his Deputy have again perfected plans to organize thugs to attack them just like they did in June 2019, and this time around, they will leave no stone unturned in informing the various law enforcement agencies, the citizens of, and residents in Edo state, Nigerians and the world at large. He therefore called on the  President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari, as well as all the security agencies to be notified of this development.

Also in the Plenary, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Victor Edoror, also announced the constitution of Various House Committees, including the Selection, Tender, Rules, Business & Govt. House, Agriculture, Local Govt. & Chieftaincy Affairs, Appropriation/Public Accounts, Lands/Survey & Security, Education and Finance and Economic Development/Women Affairs, others are Oil and Gas, Health and House Services, Infrastructure, Youth/Sports/Transport, Energy and Water Resources amongst others.

Also, petitions from Ohonsi and Partners Advocate and Solicitors, signed by A.I Michael Esq. for Ohonsi & Partners, on the unlawful removal of Owan East Council Vice Chairman, Hon. Igbarago Ohiorenua Daniel as well as the petition  written by M.O Iguodala & Co, signed by C. O Aiyudubie, Esq. on the unlawful withholding  of salaries of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Councilors of the eighteen Local Government Councils in Edo state, for their refusal to defect with the Governor of Edo state to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The Speaker, referred the two petitions to the House Committee on Judiciary and the House Committee on Local Government respectively, and are to report back to the House in two weeks.

Rt. Hon. Victor Edoror, also used the opportunity to urge the EDHA Members who are still foot dragging to come and join the Majority Members in the legislative business, so as to move Edo state forward; as that is sacrosanct in this democratic dispensation

Hon. Eric Okaka who represents Owan East moved the motion for adjournment of the sitting, and Hon. Seid Oshiomole, who represents, Etsako West II, seconded the motion.
Thereafter, the House’s sitting was adjourned to Wednesday August 26th, 2020.
