EDHA OPENS CAN OF WORMS, EXPOSE EDO GOVERNMENT

EDHA OPENS CANS OF WORMS, EXPOSE THE CLANDESTINE ACTIVITIES OF EDO GOVT.

By: Oriaifoh Godwins

On Wednesday, September 9, the Edo State House of Assembly exposed the clandestine and frivolous activities of the government of Edo State, when during plenary, the House denied approving the sum of N1.56billion naira loan for the Godwin Obaseki led government of the State.

Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Agbaje, the Deputy Speaker of the House, who represents, Akoko Edo II constituency, under matter of personal exploration, said; " … the Mr. Godwin Obaseki led government has succeeded in completely killing the principles of separation of powers… the government operate like a totalitarian administration, everything is done within the Government House, the House of Assembly Premises has been denigrated, and the seven dissident members of the House, who have been compromised, are currently hiding in the Government House, and claiming to be carrying out legislature functions…"

Hon. Agbaje continued by saying people of Edo State and Nigerians should note that anything done under the 7 members kangaroo House of Assembly, that is currently hiding in the Government House, cannot stand. He went on to say that there has been no opportunity for the House of Assembly to provide proper oversight check on the Government of Edo State, as loans taken under the Godwin Obaseki led administration, has not been judiciously expended, loans that  are tied to projects, were not for what they are meant, money collected, facilities granted, grants taken by the Government, have all been frivolously used and dispensed for political purposes… We cannot mortgage the future of our State, he said.

Hon. Chris Okaeben who represents Oredo West, lending his voice to this matter of urgent public importance, said, “… myself and my Oredo East constituency colleague, are really embarrassed by the activities of this current Governor of Edo State, and on behalf of our people, I want to use this opportunity to apologise to all the people of Edo state, as this is not the kind of Governor that we expected to represent us in Oredo, as he is a man that thrives in deceits, misleading the people, and mortgaging the future of our dear State. He is not a man that I should be proud to call my own Governor…”

Okaeben, continued by saying the legislature and judiciary are being harassed, intimidated and oppressed on a daily basis by one Governor who has become an emperor. He said the Hallow Chambers of Edo State House of Assembly, has been taken over by militants that the Governor brought into the State from outside. The Governor of Edo State, he said, now have a militant quarters, a court, and a thug quarters, inside the Edo State Government House and that is the same place where the dissident 7 members are purportedly sitting to stamp pad all the atrocities of the Governor and approve frivolous loans. He concluded by saying the people of Edo State are vehemently opposed to the N1.5billion naira loan, as it does not serve the interest of the Edo people. This is one of the reasons why the Godwin Obaseki led administration does not want the House of assembly to operate the way, it should, and the Governor hate opposition that may come from the oversight function of the House. Okaeben concluded.

In his ruling, the Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, mandated the Clerk of the House to send clean copies of the resolution to the Executive Governor of Edo State, Governor Godwin Obaseki, the Attorney-General of the Federation, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Director General of the Debt Management office, the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, ICPC and the banking community, specifically Sterling and Access banks. He warned the Seven Members conveniently sitting in the Government House that their sitting is illegal and should be discontinued.

The Speaker, also terminated the appointment of the suspended Clerk who has been aiding the seven members and appointed substantially, Mr. Samuel Efezokhele as the clerk of the House.

The House was thereafter adjourned to September 23rd, 2020.

Sitting continues…
