U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service concluded that Namibia’s meat inspection system is equivalent to the United States, even as Nigeria herders are still in their nomadic business and Government seriously thinking of creating what they call Ruga in all the states of the federation for the herders.
The United States also found that Namibia has advanced animal disease control system.
There are 2.9 million cattle in Namibia, that outnumber people.
Namibia is also among the few African countries that are eligible to export beef to the European Union and China.
In view of the above, it is time for Nigeria to understudy Namibia so as to begin to make a headway on cattle rearing and beef production as one of the avenues to boost the country's Gross National Product, GNP.
