2yrs. Blackout in Edo community.... A ray of hope from Concerned individual
By: Oriaifoh Godwins
The Uneah communities in Esan Central local government area of Edo state, that comprise Ibore, Obiabi, Ugbalo, Atuagbo and Ekilor villages has in the past over two years now, been cut off from electricity supply, and those that can afford it, have resorted to the use of generators and other alternative sources. While majority of others seek very difficult and uncomfortable ways of meeting their power needs especially with respect to charging their phones and other rechargeable electrical gadgets.
The fact that the communities has been cut off from the supply of electricity, is however not the story; the news is the initiative of Mr. Gideon Ijie, an individual, who out of his scarce resources, took up the responsibility of setting up a hub, UGBAKADU CHARGING HUB, located at the market square area, opposite the former Police station in Ibore, one of the Uneah communities, where the inhabitants can at least charge their phones, torch lights, lamps and other rechargeable gadgets for free.
The hub operates for twelve hours daily, with a generating set that has the capacity to charge at least a hundred phones plus other electrical rechargeable gadgets at a time, powering the centre.
Mr. Gideon Ijie, speaking with our correspondent, said; '...God himself said "let there be light" and there was light. This means, God knows the importance of light, and the havoc that darkness can cause. Therefore, I think our people should at least be able to charge their phones and other rechargeable light gadgets, so that with their phones, they can communicate with their loved ones that reside outside the community, outside Edo state and Nigeria.' To be kept incommunicado from their loved ones, he sad, can be traumatic...
Mr. Ijie continued by calling on all the sons and daughters as well as friends of Uneah to lend a hand in bringing Uneah communities out of darkness, as we can only but compliment government's efforts in bringing the dividends of good governance to Uneah people.
Ijie further revealed that, God willing and with the support of all, his initiative, which is currently in its embryonic stage, will be able to procure solar system that will eventually broaden the scope of supply of electricity to the entire communities, and possibly also provide street lights.
Earlier, Mr. Ijie thanked and commended the Edo state Commissioner for Science and Technology, Barr. Emmanuel Agbale, and others that made out time to visit the hub, and also commended his initiative.
