EDO: GOV. OBASEKI, A TECHNOCRAT OR ELITE GOVERNOR?

Governor Godwin Obaseki, a technocrat or Elite governor?

By: Armstrong Ovie Afabor

A  brisk look at the work of Godwin Obaseki gives the impression that he is doing well until you take the pain to look more closely then you discover that his work is nothing short of a weak facade at good performance.

Obaseki has been termed the Technocrat governor but nothing about him other than his expensive suit demonstrate or show the meaning of "Technocratothers,
Under Obaseki as governor, Edo people has been thrown into serious penury as the masses suffering have been tripled. Looking at his style, am forced to believe that his government is geared towards re enthronement of Elitism as he has since returned all those Elite who have been relegated, to prominence.

Let's take a look at the Central Park park introduced by GGO, that is used mainly by the commoners. That park is a disgrace to any government who mean well for her citizens. What puzzles me is that few metres away from that park is a well furnished park that serve private car owners for tolls.

Here is my query for GGO:  why charge bus drivers 1,800 daily from the money they make from commoners and use same money to construct a park and shut those who pay you heavily out of the park and leave them in a swamp?

GGO claims that Edo people are satisfied with his performance? What yardstick did he use to measure the people's impression of him?  did he call a town hall meeting or what?

Under Obaseki, the number of tertiary schools in Edo state has reduced by almost 50%, Edo university is the most expensive government school in Nigeria and the future of students of college Agriculture is in danger.

The roads constructed by GGO are similar to what is called one season wonder in soccer, they are beautiful in dry season when they are newly asphalted and they are washed away immediately raining season begins.

GGO promised to create 200,000 jobs , please how many people do you know that are beneficiary of jobs under Obaseki?

Public basic and secondary schools in Edo state are surviving with N-power teachers and our technocrat governor is not saying anything.  I make bold to say that Asoro senior secondary school do not have up to 3 mathematics teachers and the students sit on bare floor in some of the classes to receive lectures but our elite governor is not worried because he do not understand what it means to be poor but intelligent and desirous of good education. Let it be known that like Asoro grammar school like all other government schools safe for Edo college which is now a government owned school for the elite.

In the health sector, the central hospital is poorly funded and lack sufficient doctors and other health workers.
Now Mr Elite governor has introduced Edo specialist hospital not caring whether we can afford it, or not.

Honestly, the list is endless and my patience as it is for many others,  who believe that GGO would improve if he is encouraged has reduced to 1% .

GGO needs to change for the better before it is too late. He should stop dancing to the tune of his praise singers. His commando bravado style cannot earn him another term.
