“I remain Edo APC Secretary” – Lawrence Okah fires back
…insists Obaseki and Ojezua lack powers to suspend him
The State Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Edo State Chapter, Lawrence Okah has dismissed reports making the rounds in the media that he has been suspended by Governor Godwin Obaseki who, in his desperate bid to secure an undeserved second term, has embraced tyranny and violent repression of perceived opponents.
Responding to the news, Lawrence Okah described the actions of the Governor and his puppet, Anselm Ojezua, as illegal and lacking in any known party procedure.
“Governor Godwin Obaseki and Anselm Ojezua lack the powers to suspend me. All they have done so far regarding the party is illegal and cannot stand. I remain the secretary of the party, while Comrade Adams Oshiomhole remains the leader of the party in Edo State,” he said.
The purported suspension of Lawrence Okah is a continuation of a string of illegal suspensions carried out by Godwin Obaseki.
Recently, in a brazen disregard of a subsisting Supreme Court judgment forbidding Governors from interfering in the affairs of local governments or removing its elected officials, Obaseki announced the suspension of some Council Chairmen for refusing to agree to a criminal attempt to divert Federal allocated funds into private accounts for personal political agenda.
Other members of the APC familiar with the party statutes and procedures have also described the actions of the Governor and the State Chairman as strange to the accepted procedure for suspending a State Secretary.
“Obaseki seems to have forgotten that he is an elected official with limited powers, not a King anointed to rule over the people like subjects. These unilateral suspensions and clampdown are bizarre, unconstitutional and should be disregarded by all right-thinking members of the society,” they said.
