AGAIN, THUNDER STRUCK IN ONDO, KILLED 8 COWS

Barely a month after 40 cows were struck by lightening in Ondo state, another set of eight cows were again killed on Tuesday evening.
The incident, this time, was reported in Ikare Akoko area and had put health officials at alert as owners of the cows were trying to push them into the market for consumption.
This, according to investigation, has made the state government to ban sales of cow meat especially in Akoko area of the state in the open market.
It was gathered that health officials, while on routine checks in Ikare identified some of the dead cows being displayed for sale.
Unlike the earlier ones killed in similar circumstances that were buried, owners allegedly roasted them and started selling them to unsuspecting butchers in Akoko area.
The Director of Environmental Health Services in Akoko Northeast local government, Mrs Yemisi Adeniyi and her counterpart from Akoko Northwest, Mr Ojo Anthony, who confirmed the suspension of the meat sales, said they had stopped some butchers from taking the cow meat to markets.
The environmentalists who mobilised on Thursday morning to the scene of the incident, seized the cow meat for immediate fumigation.
The health experts therefore cautioned people of Akoko to stay away from cow meat in the next few days to avoid consumption of contaminated and medically unfit cow meat allegedly killed by lightening.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Butchers’ Association in Ikare, Mr Kabiru Ismaila said he was working with government’s environmental health officials to ensure such cow meat was not sold in Akoko markets in the next few days.
